** MEMORIZE 28 Multiplication Facts. The next test will be given on February 19th. I sent home Friday's test today. CONGRATULATIONS: The following students passed with 80%-100% (and will take the next test for speed & 100% accuracy): Majdalean (86%), Annie (96), Max (96%), Mustafa (82%), & Kori (100%). AWESOME!! We have started division, which is VERY difficult for a child who does not know his/her facts. Please make 28 cards & start practicing every day through this school year. Don't xerox the sheet & time your child, since the order will change and he/she should know the fact (not that the first row is: 8, 10, 4, 30, etc. Everyone will take the test again on 2/19 so REVIEW/LEARN over the holiday break.
• NEW Literature Circle Assignment due TUESDAY, 1/15 **BRING YOUR LITERATURE CIRCLE BOOK TO SCHOOL THE DAY YOU RETURN AFTER THE BREAK (don't let this sneak up on you) so you can begin reading your new assignment with your group. Your child should read the assigned reading to you each night, in a timely manner so that he/she can complete his/her job a little bit at a time. If I indicated on the assignment "Read Multiple Times" your child should read the assigned portion several times to increase fluency. If you feel it would be beneficial to read the assignment more than once, please do. You can make a game of it, too. Time for a minute, count words, subtract errors, and your child should read 105 words per minute. Refer to the "Literature Circle - KEEP ALL YEAR" hand-out distributed at Back to School Night. In this way, you can model what your child needs to do for his/her assignment. BE SURE he/she reports ONLY on the ASSIGNED chapters (or pages). He/she may read ahead, but the "assignment" must reflect only those chapters or pages read. Since it is an ORAL REPORT, too, have him/her practice reading his/her report aloud. When your child reads to you, please record that book on the Reading Contract. Your child will take a 10 point quiz on the book when he/she is finished with it, so have your child read aloud and discuss the content often.• DECEMBER Reading CONTRACT due Friday Record the LITERATURE CIRCLE BOOK and then go on to another chapter book if assignment is read OR read the assignment more than once, which is great for fluency. (Do not record minutes y0ur child spends reading picture books at a lower level.). I'll stamp it and return it to your child every Friday.
• IMPORTANT: CORRECT the MID-YEAR TEST with your child. (The answer key is attached on he back of the test, as well as the text to read for the listening portion of the test. This way, you can guide your child as he/she searches for answers. There is NO SPELLING PACKET this week, so correcting the Mid-Year test is the "packet" this week. Please return ASAP, but the due date is this Friday 12/18. I still need tests from: Trevor, Melody, Zoe, Carter, Marcel, Quin, Brandon, Mackenzie, Mustafa, Luke, Johnny, Gabrielle, & Emily

HELP I can use Cartridges 94 & 95 (for my copier so I can make copies of overhead transparencies for students who are absent and/or at speech, Kids Korner, etc.) Copier is now armed & ready to go, but my HP Deskjet 5740 is out and takes 94 & 95, too... so I still need one more set.
